Walking for some Jefferson Physical Therapy Students
Just before the Christmas holidays, I had the opportunity to spend a morning with 15 students in the physical therapy program at Jefferson University. It was their first opportunity for to evaluate an amputee. First, was an opportunity to get to know me; age, what do I do for a living, any children/grandchildren, favorite hobbies, etc. The of course was the history; when did I have my amputation, what was it like, what medications am I on, what other medical issues do I have. Next was all about my prosthetic; how long have I had it, how many sockets have I had, what's it like walking in it, And then, the fun part for them; taking measurements, stretching me (or challenging me to stretch), watching me walk and diagnosing problems of gait, etc.
I've attached a few videos that were taken of my walking. Hope you enjoy! By the way, the zip off tropical pants come from L. L. Bean. Trust me, they make the life of an amputee much easier.
